Executive Kevin Seawright recently gave an interview to Worldclass detailing his personal and professional life. Mr. Seawright is currently the CFO and Executive Vice President of the Newark Community Economic Development Corporation (Newark CEDC). The CEDC is focusing on improving the local economy through funding small businesses, increasing Wi-Fi access, providing summer employment opportunities to students, and a variety of public works projects.
A desire to give back started early for Seawright which he told WorldClass Magazines. From the age of 12 he was helping out in Philadelphia’s inner city youth programs. Kevin attributes this desire and his work ethic directly to his parents. This close familial connection continues to play an integral part in his life currently as his 12 year old daughter, Tia, is the most important person in his life.
Rather than view life’s successes in dollars and cents Seawright chooses to look at people. His two markers of success could not be more admirable. He values family above all else, and sees his daughter’s actions as a reflection of his success. The other important aspect is giving back and making an impact on the lives of people in your community, such as providing funding for an entrepreneur who has been turned down from a variety of banks.
When he is not completely engrossed in his work Mr. Seawright enjoys watching the Philadelphia 76ers’ basketball games.
Although he has achieved a great amount of success in the past year with the CEDC, there is still a long way to go. Mr. Seawright relishes the challenge and goes to work each day in order to try to leave the community better than it was the day before. On the horizon for Seawright is continuing to help develop small businesses in Newark, as well as contributing towards new real estate endeavors in the city. He’s also a big time fan of music, and Kevin Seawright can be found posting new tracks on SoundCloud.
